I’m a self-taught designer and tech-geek with a business and marketing degree. I always knew that I wanted to create my own design company, so I geared my career path to that end, soaking up whatever business and design experience I could over the years. In my past life as a marketing management executive, I developed my design and client communication experience and honed my business acumen – making me the perfect ally to call on to help your business flourish.
I set up my first design company, Suska Marketing & Design, in 2010 while I was still working at my first full-time marketing position at a boutique law firm. My studio was a one-woman show and I worked with start-ups and small local businesses in the Montreal region. It was an outlet for my creativity as my full-time job had me marketing to just one target demographic.
As I accrued more experience I was recruited to work for a large fashion company as their marketing director, so I put my freelance dreams on “pause.” But I longed to re-open my studio so I could connect with a wider variety of clients and experience the thrill of creating something new for different audiences.
Meanwhile, former clients kept asking me to freelance for them and new referrals kept pouring in. In November 2013, I took the plunge and left the corporate world behind. I rebranded the studio as Suska Digital Design Company, and business took off. Since then, I have been humbled by the challenges and lifted by the successes as I navigate my most trying job yet – being my own boss.
